I became vegetarian at the start of the nineties then since doing Veganuary 2018 I’ve gone a step further and become plant based. I feel well, very well, and I’ve dropped some weight (I’m as slim now as I’ve ever been since the age of about 14) but more important I think this is a more morally coherent diet and so so so much better for the environment!

I started of being vegetarian when friends showed undercover film of animals being bred and slaughtered, until then I had never grasped the horrors of this industry and had in my mind the idyllic farm… I didn’t think I could go vegan I was always winging on about how I’d miss cheese… but iv found great cheese substitutes I like so it’s no big deal, again I never knew dairy farming was so cruel to the mothers and just killing the calves as they were deemed unproductive, I see adverts now with a product called laughing cow and I think was I really that brain washed to believe this marketing crap, iv since gone on to get as much info as I can and my hero is Dr Gregger who just gives all the latest up to date facts and awesome recipes, I’m 56 and I’m healthier now than ever, one day future generations will get the link between diet & dying I hope sooner than later 🙂

I became vegan at 50 after seeing a video on YouTube of baby chicks getting ground alive for eggs; it changed my life. I went vegan straight away and spent the next few days pulling back the curtain on the horror story that is speciesism and planning my first activism.

I have been vegan 7 years, but was vegetarian for 23 years before that. My only regret is, that I didn’t make the jump from vegetarian to vegan sooner.

My main concerns are animal welfare, and the environment. I do not believe that ethically or from a sustainability point, an animal based diet is justifiable for anyone.

Plus there are amazing health benefit from eating a whole foods plant based diet.

I was a wholefoods vegetarian and now I am am a wholefoods vegan. #veganforlife

I have been vegan a long time. I operate a Microsanctuary and have 8 children. I have always had a connection to animals and when I realized that I was consuming those that wanted to live in peace, I became vegan. Once you know the truth, it’s easy to see their lives as individuals with families and a heart.
Peace for all beings. 🙏❤️
Name: Eileen Wishart
Age: 55
I turned vegetarian when I was 20 when I walked out of a Fassbinder film, ‘In the year of 13 moons’ where a sequence involves the slaughter of cattle as they are herded, stunned and then drained of blood! I never finished the film and I never ate meat again. Sadly I knew nothing of the egg and dairy industry until watching videos online probably about five years ago. I was 90% vegan for two years just finding it hard to give up certain things but then January 2016 decided enough is enough and that I could no longer be a part of these industries so I am now vegan. I wish I knew what I know now and did it sooner.

Name: Dale Hemenway

I have always loved animals, dogs especially. After our 18 year old dog, Jake, died we were naturally devastated. That same night we sat down to a chicken dinner. The hypocrisy hit me for some reason on that occasion as it hadn’t before. I went vegan the next day and not touched, meat, dairy or eggs since. I never really thought about health but there has been a major improvement. My two best friends have already died and I was heading the same way. Obviously I don’t know the full extent of the damage I’ve done to my body by eating animal products for more than 50 years but, hopefully, it’s in remission and can be fully reversed. I certainly feel fantastic. The picture I have sent you is one I posted on my Facebook page last week and caused quite a stir amongst friends 🙂

I have been vegetarian for over 30 years and took the next step to veganism 18 months ago. I did prepare myself slowly for it over three years.
My health is generally good and I love the knock on effect being vegan has had on my life. I have found that I have become even more kind and caring about other issues in life.
I have a group of friends, including my husband, that are travelling down this road and it is good to have support.
I love cooking and baking and enjoy trying out new creations. It is also wonderful to see so many outlets now catering for our needs. How amazing to not have to scour menus to find something I can eat!?
I am a painter and writer and everything I earn from my creations go to a dog refuge in Southern Spain. They work SO hard out there, it’s the least I can do to help.

Been vegan for over 4 years officially, probably longer. Watching speeches by the American Activistl Gary Yourofsky, he said ”when people tell me they’re vegetarian, I say well done, you’re half way there”. So I found out what he meant & not touched animal products since. I like to go to the gym, I like watching Formula 1, I’m not a huge fan of humans & what they’re doing to the Earth & its inhabitants. Never married, no kids. Is that enough to put down here? 🙂

Age: 57
I became vegan just before 55 once I found out how cruel animal agriculture is. I was unhealthy, constantly going to dr who couldn’t find anything wrong so I started to think it was all in my head. I thought I needed to consume animals to be healthy but about 4 months after researching and consuming plant based food it occurred to me that I felt fabulous. I haven’t been to the dr for illness since and I’ll be 58 soon. I use to feel like I was in my 70s and I now feel like I’m in my 40s. Will never go back. Wish I’d known so much sooner for so many reasons.

I am a proud Mother and Grandmother, vegan, animal rights activist and Holistic Therapist.

I was vegetarian for about 20 years and I instantly went vegan over 3 years ago now after finding out the truth about the dairy industry. The transition was extremely easy as there were so many other cruelty free and delicious options out there and so much more now 3 years on! Being a mother myself and understanding the bond between a Mother and her child which is the same for all species not just humans, I could not tolerate being a part of this cruel industry and that is when I became an advocate for the animals also.

Becoming vegan has greatly enhanced my life on many levels, spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically. I don’t get any spots now or any stomach issues. I feel better in myself and lighter.

I truly believe that you are what you eat and that food is your medicine. I eat a healthy vegan diet (most of the time) which then gives me the energy to exercise which then makes me feel good about myself and how I look. I have never taken any regular medication and still don’t which I think is good going for a 50 year old.

Being vegan is a win win situation not only for your own health and well being, but knowing that you are contributing to help end animal exploitation and reducing your own carbon footprint on the planet.

My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner!

I’ve not intentionally eaten meat in over 35 years and have lived a vegan lifestyle for the last 5. I decided being vegetarian was not enough when learning about the nasty dairy and egg industries through hillside animal sanctuary’s newsletters. I take part in activism when time permits and am a vegan runner. I ran my first half marathon 3 years ago and have ran another 5 since then. I like supporting vegan businesses and also try to create demand for vegan products by buying them when I see them. I’m on a journey to zero waste and have already made many changes to my buying habits. When you think about whether you actually need something you find you don’t at all! I am lucky to have many vegan friends ranging from 15 year olds to 70 year olds. And love that by wearing my vegan runners vest I’m raising awareness. Quite a few people have joined after seeing my vest and speaking to me at races.

We feel so much healthier now, I’ve taken up running and have a much better relationship with life, we all feel we’re doing something. My vegan journey began from the health perspective but now it’s the ethics and environmental impact that motivates us all.

I taught Geography and IT for 30 years and now I’m a bad-ass editor and writer of science fiction and fantasy. I became vegan in 1975. I cycle 100 miles a week in winter, rather more in summer. Veganism makes me feel honest with the world and the energy and vitality of plant foods keeps my legs rotating to get up those hills.

Hello. I haven been vegan for several years and have t eaten meat since age 18. I love travelling, running (and like to combine travelling and running) and animals. My husband and I have / beautiful fur babies. I truly believe the world would be so different if everyone drastically reduced / eliminated meat . This picture was taken March 9, 2019.
